KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that he was the most abused person as floods in Kapan Khare (rivulet) inundate the area.
He also urged the government to implement a unified project to address flooding and inundation problems in Kapan and Budhanilkantha areas.
Thapa said so at an interaction organized on Sunday and focused on Kapan-Budhanilkantha inundation control along the Dhobikhola corridor.
He apprised that the local bodies, province government and Kathmandu Valley Development Authority were separately working along various sections of Kapan and Budhanilkantha to control flooding.
“Being a representative of this area, I get abused a lot. As soon as the rain falls and inundates the area, I take the most abuse,” he said.
He called for a unified project instead of separate projects in the area, arguing a single and comprehensive project would have better impact compared to smaller, separate ones.
He stressed on protection of settlements along with taming the flow of the rivulet during the construction of the corridor.
He said, “People migrated to this place and have built houses on 2-5 annas land. They own property and pay taxes every year.”
In addition, Thapa also informed that the proposal on this matter will be passed in the upcoming meeting of the House of Representatives.
