KATHMANDU: Nepali National Team cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has said he would confront what he said “all baseless allegations” against him.

Reiterating his innocence in the allegations of rape by a minor, Lamichhane said he was would take leave from CPL and return to the country within a few days.

“I am innocent and have full faith in the country’s law. I have decided to take leave from CPL and return home in a few days,” he has said on social media.

Lamichhane also hoped that he would get justice and prove his innocence.

Meanwhile, police have said they have initiated an investigation for the alleged crime of coercion and rape against Lamichhane.

A girl, 17, filed a case alleging Lamichhane for taking her to various places in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur all day on August 21 and brought her to a hotel in Sinamangal of Kathmandu where she was raped the same night.

The victim has undergone a detailed health examination, police said.

Police have collected CCTV footage of the two hotels where Lamichhane had “stayed with the girl”.

Lamichhane is currently out of Nepal.

An arrest warrant has already been issued against Lamichhane.

Kathmandu District Court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against the cricketer.
