“Police thoroughly investigating on alleged rape case against Sandeep Lamichhane”

KATHMANDU: The Police Circle, Gaushala has said that an investigation is being carried out for the alleged crime of coercion and rape against the captain of the Nepali national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane.

The police issued a statement saying that a detailed investigation is being carried out on Lamichhane by a police team jointly deployed from District Police Complex, Kathmandu and Police Circle, Gaushala.

According to the police, a girl, 17, filed a case alleging Lamichhane for taking her to various places in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur all day on August 21 and brought her to a hotel in Sinamangal of Kathmandu where she was raped the same night.

The victim has undergone a detailed health examination, police said.

A police complaint was filed against Lamichhane on Tuesday.

Police have also started to collect CCTV footage of the two hotels where Lamichhane, who is accused of raping a 17-year-old minor, had stayed with the girl.

After registering the complaint, police have proceeded with the girl’s health examination and further investigation into the incident.

Lamichhane is currently out of Nepal.

Police also informed that Sandeep will be brought back to Nepal with the help of Interpol if necessary for investigation.
