If I am going to be impeached in Ranjan Koirala’s case, I have nothing to say, Rana tells lawmakers

KATHMANDU: The impeachment recommendation committee of the Parliament recorded a statement from the suspended Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana on Sunday as well.

The committee members asked five questions during an hour-long statement with Rana at Singha Darbar.

The lawmakers asked about the decision made by Rana’s bench in the case of former DIG of Armed Police Force Ranjan Koirala.

Member of the committee and Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Min Bishwakarma said Rana made a decision by using his discretion in Koirala’s case.

“After listening to the statement of Ranjan’s family, I was impressed and decided to reduce Koirala’s imprisonment,” Rana told the lawmakers.

“I used discretion,” he said adding, “And if impeachment against me is to be filed simply because of Koirala’s case, I have nothing to say,” Rana was quoted as saying.

The committee has prepared 43 questions to ask Rana.

Rana has been summoned again on September 10 to take a statement on the remaining questions.
