NC General Secretary Sharma says he would contest from Jhapa-1

BIRTAMOD: General Secretary of Nepali Congress (NC) Bishwa Prakash Sharma has said that he will not contest from any other constituency except from Jhapa Constituency-1 in the November 20 election.

Sharma’s announcement comes at a time amid reports that Sharma could contest from Kathmandu Constituency-5.

He also claimed to win the election this time from Jhapa-1.

However, Sharma added that the party was yet to decide whether he should not be a candidate from Jhapa-1 or not.

Stating that an electoral alliance under NC’s leadership was inevitable to protect the constitution, democracy, the country, and the people, Sharma also hinted that Jhapa-1 may fall under the Maoist Center if there was such an alliance.

He clarified that discussions were underway about his candidacy.

It may be noted that in the previous election held in 2074 BS, Maoist Center’s candidate Surendra Kumar Karki was elected from Jhapa-1 defeating Sharma.
