‘Late Giri’s thought should be emulated’



KATHMANDU: Finance minister Janardan Sharma has said we all should emulate the thought of Nepali Congress leaders and House of Representatives member, the late Pradeep Giri.

The Finance Minister said this while paying tributes to the late leader at Nepal Mediciti Hospital, Bhainsepati, Lalitpur on Sunday. Minister Sharma had reached the hospital to express his condolences.

Sharma described the late Giri as an established studious and intellectual person in Nepali politics.

NC leader Dr Shekhar Koirala said that the late Giri was such a leader capable of interpreting the democratic socialism thought as propounded by the late BP Koirala, founding president of the Nepali Congress. “Giri had the capacity to eloquently put across his opinions within the party and in other programmes as well.”

Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Nepali Congress Vice-president Purna Bahadur Khadka, general secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand had reached the Hospital to pay tributes to the late Giri.

Nepali Congress leaders and party workers, well-wishers from other political parties, intellectuals, journalists and people from various walks of life were gathered at the hospital premises to pay their respects to Giri.

Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Rajendra Pandey described the late Giri as the role model personality for the Nepali Congress as well as the Communist parties of Nepal. “Democracy has been consolidated in the country at present due to the internalization of his aspiration that the democratic and left forces should work together,” he said.

MP and socialist thinker Giri died at Mediciti Hospital, Lalitpur at 9.30 pm on Saturday.

He was 74 and suffering from cancer.
