Koshi barrage: 42 out of 56 sluices opened as water level rises



SAPTARI: With the water level surging due to incessant rains, 46 out of the 56 sluices of the Saptakoshi barrage have been opened to avoid disaster.

The surge in the water level in the river has panicked the residents of Udaypur, Saptari, and Sunsari districts.

The sluices were opened after the flow of water was measured at 243,180 cusecs per second.

According to Saptari Superintendent of Police Abhinarayan Kafle, although the Koshi River has moved towards the western settlement of Dumribote in Belaka Municipality of Udaypur, the flow of water from the barrage has not decreased yet.

According to him, due to incessant and rapid flow, Koshi has displaced more than 2,500 people in Udaypur, while community buildings and school buildings in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-13, Saptari have been washed away.
