INARUWA: 500 families of Sunsari Barahkshetra municipality have been trapped after Saptakosi river dam burst in Belka Municipality-8 Lahurekhoch Dumribot of Udaipur.

Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sunsari Indradev Yadav informed that 2,500 people from 500 households of Barahkshetra-6 and 9 got trapped when the Kosi River dam broke and entered the village.

He said they were stranded on the Sri Lanka island.

According to CDO Yadav, despite efforts to relocate the local residents of that area, the rescue effort has taken relatively longer time as the trapped people refused to cooperate with the rescue team.

The trapped locals have been claiming they are safe.

CDO Yadav informed that the team including Minister Karki inspected and monitored the areas where the felling was done, the preparations for rescuing the affected people and so on. He added that the provincial disaster management committee is preparing to hold a meeting soon.

The meeting is supposed to focus on immediate rescue of the victims, necessary relief package, relocation and other issues.
