1000-bed Holding Center in Birgunj nears completion



BIRJUNG: The construction of Holding Centre to quarantine the COVID-19 suspected and infected ones entering Nepal from India in Birgunj, Parsa district has reached final phase.

The structure spanning across around 2 bigha of land nearby go-down towards the western side of Birgunj Customs Office has 13 kitchens, 22 toilets and 22 quarantine buildings.

The Hanuman Construction which was awarded the contract to build the Holding Center at the estimated cost of Rs 280 million will be managed by the Nepali Army, informed Hanuman Construction’s in-charge Bishal Dahal.

Dahal shared that construction of all physical infrastructures have been completed while oxygen cylinders remain to be installed in 100 beds.

The Center is being readied as growing cases of COVID-19 are reported in the country.

Those entering Nepal from Indian border and suspected or infected with COVID-19 would be quarantined.

The erstwhile government on April 18, 2021 had decided to build Holding Centers in eight places at bordering places across the country in a bid to prevent COVID-19 and treat the suspected and infected ones.
