Minister Karki calls for developing Nepal as IT hub



KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has stressed the need for developing Nepal as an information technology (IT) hub.

Stating that IT has been an integral part in people’s daily life apart from its use in government and private sectors, the Minister said, “The government is always active in the development and expansion of IT. There is a need to linking its latest development with the country’s whole development. Like in hydropower, tourism and commercial agriculture, the country should be developed as an IT hub.”

The Minister said so while inaugurating ‘Mero Beema’, the country’s insurance aggregator amid a function in Kathmandu on Friday.

Maintaining that government offices were being technology friendly, he, who is also the government’s spokesperson, hoped that banks and financial sectors of the country would gradually go digital.

At another event, the Minister underscored the need for creating job opportunities at home by utilizing available resources. He made this remark at an event organized here to honor literary persons. Various 14 artists and literary personalities were honored on the program.
