Finance Ministry’s CCTV forensic report unsealed, study being conducted



KATHMANDU: The parliamentary special committee investigating the involvement of unauthorized persons in the budget preparation is studying the forensic report on the Ministry of Finance’s CCTV obtained from the police.

The seal of the forensic report has been unsealed in the ongoing committee meeting at Singha Durbar and the study is being conducted.

The Forensic Science Laboratory of the Nepal Police submitted the report regarding the recovery of the CCTV footage of the Ministry of Finance to the committee.

Earlier, the ministry said that the CCTV footage will be retained for 13 days only, and after that, it will be deleted and the footage of that day has been deleted.

After that, the parliamentary committee asked the police to recover the footage.

In addition, the committee has also obtained the CCTV footage of the gate of Singha Durbar.

The then minister Janardan Sharma has been accused of manipulating the tax rate by allowing unauthorized persons to the ministry at night, before presenting the budget for the financial year 2079/80 in the House of Representatives.

Speaker Agni Sapkota formed an 11-member special parliamentary inquiry committee to investigate this allegation.

Sharma resigned from the post of finance minister on the same day.
