Unfortunate but true, elections can’t be won without money: Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Chairman of Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has said that it has come to his notice that elections cannot be won without spending a hefty amount of money.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Monday, Prachanda said that unfortunately, winning the election without spending money has become almost impossible lately.

He said that the election held in 2064 BS was different as whoever contested from the Maoist party would win.

“The situation is different now,” he lamented adding, “If you can’t spend a lot of money, and if you are not accustomed to tricks, it will be very difficult to win the election now.”

Prachanda also said that the money spent in the election will be “reimbursed” after becoming the minister.

Stating that corruption in the country has been institutionalized, Prachanda said, “Some of my comrades told me that they spent Rs 100 million to win the local municipality elections.”

“If the chairman of a rural municipality has to spend so much money to win the election, imagine how much one has to spend for the parliamentary election,” Prachanda said.
