Govt must inform House about status of SPP: Maoist Center leader Gurung

KATHMANDU: Chief Whip of the CPN (Maoist Center) Parliamentary Party Dev Prasad Gurung has drawn the attention of the government to inform the House of Representatives about the statement of the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the State Partnership Program (SPP).

The spokesperson is reported to have stated that the Ministry would write to the United States of America regarding the government’s decision to withdraw from the program only after holding talks with various sides in Nepal on the matter.

“The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson has said the ministry cannot write to the US on the matter at present. This is against the decision of the Council of Ministers. The concerned ministry has the responsibility to implement government’s decision. However, the ministry has not implemented the government’s decision. I want to draw the attention of Speaker that the government should issue a ruling on the matter of writing to the US about its decision to withdraw from the SPP,” he said while attending the HoR meeting on Thursday.

It may be noted that the Cabinet meeting on June 20 had decided to withdraw from the SPP and write to the US about its decision.
