Governor Adhikari should resign: Prime Minister Deuba

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari should resign.

Speaking in the meeting of the ruling coalition held at Prime Minister’s Baluwatar-based residence on Friday, PM Deuba remarked that it is high time the Governor resigned from the post on ethical grounds.

The coalition leaders had raised the issue of Governor Adhikari and had urged the government to take due steps into the Governor’s working as a UML cadre.

Governor Adhikari has been drawn into controversy after his alleged membership in the CPN-UML party came to light on July 10.

CPN-UML named M Adhikari, Khotang as a member of the Finance and Planning Department headed by party leader Ghanshyam Bhusal.

Although Bhusal tried to defend the allegations against  Governor Adhikari, public pressure is mounting against the main opposition UML to reveal the identity of M. Adhikari included in the party’s responsibility roster.
