Biratnagar Metropolitan City endorses budget

BIRATNAGAR: The Biratnagar Metropolitan City has unanimously endorsed the budget for the next fiscal year.

The 10th Municipal Assembly meeting of the metropolis held on Saturday passed the policy and program along with the budget for the next fiscal year.

The metropolis had on June 24 unveiled a budget of Rs 3 billion, 625 million567 thousand.

The meeting also unanimously passed the Economic Bill, Appropriation Bill and the Sports Development Bill presented by Deputy Mayor Shilpa Nirala Karki.

Likewise, the meeting has made some important policy decisions, Chief Administrative Officer Umesh Basnet said.

The same meeting constituted the Judicial Committee under the convenorship of Deputy Mayor Karki and the Account Committee under the convenorship of Assembly member Balram Karanjit.

On the occasion, Mayor Nagesh Koirala stressed on the need of expanding the scope of revenue collection for increasing the sources of income of the metropolis for the overall development of all wards of the city. He suggested increasing it to one billion rupees.

Mayor Koirala also said that discussions are on with the donor agencies for mobilizing budget for construction of physical infrastructures and resolving problems related to drinking water, sanitation and inundation, among others. Deputy Mayor Karki underscored the need of strengthening the economic condition of the metropolis.
