DARCHULA: Apple farming has turned into a loss business for Jeet Singh Bohora of Byas rural municipality-1, Chhangaru for not finding the market.
The apples of his farm are being rotten because of lack of market outlets and the lack of road connectivity. According to him, it involves a huge cost to take the apples to the Indian market. Bohora said this year around he produced some 30 quintal apples but he could sell roughly 20 quintals to the Indian security personnel. A total of 10 quintal apples went rotten, he complained.
Even though apple produce was high in Darchula, farmers are compelled to suffer a huge loss due to the unavailability of the market. Bohora suffered a loss amounting to over Rs one million for not being able to sell around 10 quintal apples, he said.
