Halesi Tuwachung municipality launches girl mobilization program to stop child marriage



KHOTANG: Halesi Tuwachung municipality of Khotang has launched a girl mobilization program to stop child marriage.

The program has begun from Chyasmitar of Halesi Tuwachung municipality-3. Mayor Bimala Rai has provided Rs 55,000 to Chyasmitar Secondary School for the program.

Mayor Rai said, “Groups of girls would be formed in schools in order to stop child marriage. The groups formed in schools will organize different public awareness programs for the same.”

She shared that a program has been launched at the leadership of girls as girls themselves should be aware to stop child marriage.

The municipality has launched the program to make the girls aware of why child marriage should not be done and what types of problems might occur while doing child marriage, added Rai.

The municipality has set a plan to expand the program, launched as a trail from Chyasmitar school, in other wards and schools making it effective.

The legal age for marriage is 20 years in Nepal. That’s why marriage under 20 years is called child marriage.
