JSP Bhattarai faction to oppose party’s cabinet shuffle move

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Federal Council Chairman Baburam Bhattarai faction has decided to oppose party Chairman Upendra Yadav group’s unilateral decision to reshuffle the Cabinet.

The Bhattarai-led faction is to meet Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and urge him not to abide by the party’s decision taken ‘unilaterally’ by party Chair Yadav.

“The party Chair Yadav took the decision for Cabinet reshuffling on their own without broader consensus. We are against the decision,” said JSP executive member Ganga Shrestha.

Party Chairman Yadav on Sunday evening handed over the names of three new ministers to PM Deuba, sources said.

The party is at the brink of split as Chair Yadav and Bhattarai have agreed to part ways.

There are currently four ministers in the Cabinet representing the JSP.

They are Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Renu Kumari Yadav, Minister for Forest and Environment Minister Ramsahay Prasad Yadav and Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development Mahindra Raya Yadav.

Except Federal Affairs Minister Shrestha, all other ministers are to be replaced.

Istiyak Rai has been proposed as Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Mrigendra Kumar Singh as Agriculture Minister and Pradip Kumar Yadav as Forest Minister in the new list handover over to PM Deuba by JSP Chair Yadav.
