KATHMANDU: Advocate of unification of communist forces, leader Bamdev Gautam has said that unity is indispensable for the protection of the Communists in the country.

Addressing the second meeting of the Ekta Rastriya Abhiyan in Lalitpur on Saturday, Gautam said there should be unity between the CPN-UML, the Maoist Center and the Unified Socialist Party to protect and strengthen the Communists in the country.

He argued that the Nepali Congress that emerged as the main force in the local elections would be strong after the state and House of Representatives elections.

He warned that in the Congress regime, projects like the MCC would continue to come despite the friendship between communists and the demoractic forces.

Stating that there was need of bringing Communist forces together, he said he was playing the role of a mediator to achieve this end. He added that he was ready to make any sacrifice for unity.

He attributed the split of Nepal Communist Party that was formed through merger of the UML and the Maoists to rigid stance taken by Prachanda against KP Oli. “The party was divided as Prachanda had not withdrawn the allegations against KP Oli,” he said, adding that since the split, he was in favor of unity.
