Bar Council decides to seek details from advocate Pokharel on bribe deal case

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Council has decided to seek information from advocate Rudra Pokhrel in connection with his alleged bribe deal audio that he made with a judge.

The Council had called an emergency meeting after a bribe deal audio between advocate Pokhrel and Kathmandu District Court Judge Raj Kumar Koirala went public through a news media on Tuesday.

The meeting of the Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Council was held in the same order.

The Council meeting chaired by Attorney General Khamb Bahadur Khati decided to seek details from advocate Pokharel as a preliminary investigation on the case.

An audio recording of a bribe transaction between Judge Koirala and Advocate Pokhrel to release businessman Ichachhaman Tamang on bail was made public on a television Tuesday.

The audio includes advocate Pokharel’s proposal to release Tamang on Rs 100 million bail and take Rs 20 million as bribe.
