SC asks for original copies relating to 52 appointments in constitutional bodies

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has asked the Office of the President to provide the original copies of the documents relating to the then Prime Minister KP Oli’s recommendation to appoint 52 officials to the constitutional bodies.

A constitutional bench comprising five judges, including acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki, on Wednesday ordered the submission of the files on decisions made by the Constitutional Council.

After the Oli-led government issued an ordinance on the Constitutional Council on December 15, 2020, the Constitutional Council convened and recommended to the President for the appointment of 52 office bearers in the constitutional bodies.

Arguing that appointment of the officials at the constitutional bodies evading the parliamentary hearing is against the prevalent legal provision, a writ was filed in the apex court.

According to advocate Om Prakash Aryal, SC has mentioned judicial council member Ram Prasad Bhandari as the defendant in the case.
