Rain-caused disasters displace 75 families

KATHMANDU: A total of 75 families have been displaced from Tripurasundari and Gangajamuna rural municipalities in Dhading due to floods and landslides following a rainfall for three continuous days.

Twenty four families of Basera, Gangajamuna-6, left the settlement Wednesday night due to rains.

District Disaster Management Committee said the disasters already drove 14 houses at Budhathum of Gangajamuna-6, 14 at Phulkharka of Gangajamuna-5 and 12 at Gangajamuna-2 out of the village.

Survivors complained that none has reached them with relief assistance so far. They are even trying to get tents to manage a temporary shelter.

Gangajamuna Rural Municipality Chair Bhakta Lama said the number of disasters survivors is highly likely to increase.

Newly elected District Coordination Committee Chief Nawaraj Adhikari said lack of attention to geographical assessment during the construction of fair weather roads here has fueled the problem of landslides during monsoon.

Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Lamsal said a meeting of the disaster management committee will be taking place Friday and it will decide about the relief assistance to the survivors.
