Students demonstrate demanding reconstruction of Tri-Chandra Campus building

KATHMANDU: Students of Tri-Chandra Multiple Campus have demonstrated demanding the reconstruction of the dilapidated college building at Ghantaghar in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Also known as Tri-Chandra College, the campus is a century-old educational institution in the country that suffered further devastation due to the 2015 Gorkha earthquake.

Students staged demonstration on the road outside the college to draw attention of concerned bodies towards its reconstruction.

Students viewed that though seven years have passed since the earthquake, the government and authorities had not shown any interest in reconstruction of the ramshackle building.

They carried placards that read “Rebuild our campus building”, “View tower gets built but not Tri-Chandra”, “Government is mum as history is collapsing”, “the Ministry of Education is missing”, among other slogans.

Students said they had to protest saying that the government had not paid attention to the reconstruction of historical Tri-Chandra Campus.

Students have started a campaign to save the campus following the deplorable condition of Tri-Chandra College, which has a history of 104 years.

The old building of Trichandra College, which was destroyed by the earthquake of 2072 BS, is getting more and more dilapidated due to lack of reconstruction.

The building of the campus next to the clock tower was built in 1975.
