Dahal completes Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon in 9 hours and 29 minutes

KATHMANDU: Shambhu Prasad Dahal, Sipradi Trading Pvt. Ltd.’s Director, has successfully completed the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon.

Dahal, 61, completed the World’s Highest Trail Marathon, the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon, in 9 hours 29 minutes and 14 seconds.

Every year, May 29 is celebrated as International Everest Day. On May 29, 1953, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary successfully climbed Mt. Everest for the first time.

On the same day in 2022, on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of International Everest Day, Director Dahal completed the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon successfully.

The marathon started from Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,364 meters. From here, Gorakshep – Lobuche Pass – Dughla Pass – Dingboche – Pheriche Pass – Tengboche to Namche Bazaar at an altitude of 3,440 meters.

The total distance from Everest Base Camp to Namche Bazaar is 42.195 kilometers. Dahal covered the distance in 9 hours 29 minutes and 14 seconds.

In the last three months, Dahal completed three marathons. The Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon is his third marathon.

Earlier, Dahal finished the Safal Pokhara International Marathon of 42.9Km and the 3rd Jumla Rara Ultra-Marathon of 49Km in February 2022.

He said, “Recently, I was fortunate to be a part of Everest Marathon 2022. As I was crisscrossing the high Sherpa trails of Khumbu Valley from Everest Base Camp, I had a conflicting feeling.”

According to him, the thinning ice of the mountain was shouting the naked truth of the human-induced climate change.

That made him realize the warming Himalayas and fast melting glaciers are the stories that are getting less attention than they deserve. Climate change has had a profound effect.

He added, “Before parting from the mountains, a little voice inside my head was determined to contribute more on the ongoing effort of the company in reducing the carbon footprints.”

Dahal was accompanied by 147 participants from 24 different nations to run the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon on the occasion of the 69th International Everest Day.

The organization in collaboration with Jumla-based Karnali Sport Club is providing ‘Ultra-Marathon Running Training Scholarships’ for children between the ages of 16 and 20.

It is also offering fully funded scholarships for football training to children between the ages of 12 and 13.
