KATHMANDU: Shelter Ashraya Nepal is going to organize football for the jailbirds.

Shelter Nepal is going to organize effective football under the football rehabilitation program in coordination with the Asian Football Confederation and the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).

Secretary General of ANFA Indra Man Tuladhar and Chairman of Shelter Ashraya Nepal Khushbu Oli exchanged memorandums at a press conference held at ANFA Complex, Satdobato, Lalitpur on Wednesday.

According to Oli, the program aims to build the capacity of prisoners through football.

“Our goal is to increase the confidence of prisoners through a player, referee, and coach education program and prevent them from returning to their former illegal lives. It develops a desire to work for mental health and social improvement,” Oli explained.

The program plans to train 48 players, 32 referees and 32 coaches in two phases a year.

The first phase of the program will run from June 5 to November 30. Under this phase, training will be provided to 24 players, 16 referees, and 16 coaches.

The second phase will be operational from December 1, 2023, to May.

At the end of the training, the coach will receive a D license, the referee will receive a Category IV certificate and the player will receive a certificate of participation.
