Counting of votes begins in Triyuga Municipality of Udayapur

KATHMANDU: Counting of votes has begun in Triyuga Municipality of Udayapur after 11 days since the election was held on May 13.

Chief Election Officer Uttam Silwal said the Election Commission (EC) directed to begin counting of votes though majority of parties demanded re-polling in ward 12 of the municipality.

“The EC has decided to count the votes,” Silwal said, adding, “We have started to count the votes, accordingly.”

Voting had been postponed at Janapremi High School of Triyuga-12 due to a dispute among political parties. The counting of votes had also halted as the parties argued for and against re-polling or counting of votes.

A decision regarding future course of action was pending after an EC team conducted on-site monitoring of the disputed polling center.

CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajwadi Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) had demanded re-polling in Triyuga 12. However, CPN-UML and Nepali Congress were in favor of counting of votes.
