ITAHARI: Hemkarna Poudel of Nepali Congress (NC) has won the mayorship of Itahari sub-metropolis of Sunsari.
Poudel, who is the common candidate of the alliance, defeated his nearest rival Yam Kumar Subba of the CPN-UML by 5,018 votes.
According to the Election Commission, Poudel won with 33,049 votes while Subba got only 28,031 votes.
Similarly, Sangita Kumari Chaudhary of CPN-UML has been elected as the Deputy Mayor.
Chaudhary won with 32,436 votes. Chaudhary defeated Keshav Kumar Bista of the CPN-Unified Socialist by a wide margin of 14,405 votes. Bista got only 18,031 votes.
