Electoral alliance deprives women in exercising leadership in Nuwakot



KATHMANDU: Women candidates have been deprived of practicing leadership roles due to electoral alliance among different political parties in a local-level election in the Nuwakot district.

Out of 12 local levels in the district, male candidates have been elected to the posts of mayor- deputy mayor and chairperson –vice-chairperson in four local levels.

Male candidates have been elected mayor of Belkotgadi municipality as well as chairperson of Tarkeshwor, Kispang and Shivapuri rural municipalities, according to Chief Election Officer, Umesh Prasad Luintel.

Similarly, out of 88 wards in the district, only two women candidates have been elected ward chairpersons. Kaushila Pudasaini of the CPN (Maoist Centre) has registered here victory to the post of ward chairperson of Belkotgadhi municipality-3.

Likewise, Ambika Tamang of the CPN (UML) has been elected ward chairperson of Belkotgadhi municipality-6 for the second tenure.
Independent candidate Kamal Bahadur Tamang has won the election to the post of ward chairperson of Myagang rural municipality-4. Earlier, he was elected the ward chairperson of the same ward from the Nepali Congress.  (RSS)
