Rahul Gandhi meets nurse who witnessed his birth



NEW DELHI: Indian Congress president Rahul Gandhi met and embraced a nurse whom she held Rahul in her hands as a newborn at a hospital in Delhi.

Nurse, Rajamma Vavathil, now 72, came face to face with Rahul Gandhi after 49 years. Rahul Gandhi hugged her, held her hands when she came to see Rahul with her family.

She was on duty at the Delhi’s Holy Family Hospital when Rahul was born on June 19, 1970. The nurse now settled in Kalloor. She, as a trainee then, had taken care of Gandhi at the hospital after his birth.

Rahul Gandhi, despite his busy schedule on a thanksgiving visit to his constituency Wayanad, spent some time with the nurse’s family.

Rahul listened with enthusiasm when she talked about witnessing his birth as well as taking him in her hands when he was born. (Agencies)
