Police inspector’s wayward firing kills youth in Udaypur

KATHMANDU: A voter has been shot dead by a police inspector at a polling station in Udayapur.

The situation turned tense in local Sorumchhabbise of Udayapur after a police inspector fired bullets indiscriminately as voting came to an end to settle a minor dispute.

Independent candidate Gaurav Bahadur Katwal’s son Nabin, 21, died on the spot from the inspector’s firing. Staff at the polling station and other police officials said that Navin was killed because of the wayward inspector.

According to eyewitnesses, the police inspector fired the first round below the knees and the second round above the waist. 13-year-old Man Kumar Shrestha has also been injured in the firing.

Locals have surrounded security personnel and election officials deployed there after the incident. The incident spot lies about 25 kilometers from the nearest city Katari.

Additional security personnel were said to be sent to rescue the security personnel and election officials.
