Indian PM Modi visits Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in Colombo, Sri Lanka at a time when the island nation is healing after the serial bombings that left over 250 dead, Indian media reports have said.

PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena. He is also expected to meet Mahinda Rajapaksa, the former Sri Lankan President and leader of opposition.

Reports said PM Modi is likely to discuss terror-related issues with Sri Lankan leaders. His visit to the island country is considered important as it is a sign of solidarity, said Austin Fernando, the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India. He added that PM Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka will send a positive message to the world. Austin also stated that the Sri Lankan government would like India to lift the travel advisory issued for Sri Lanka after the attack. (Agencies)
