EC seeks clarification from Prachanda for violating poll code



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarification from CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ for violating the election code of conduct.

The EC sought an explanation from Dahal for engaging in election publicity during the silence period.

The EC clarification pertains to Prachanda’s meeting with candidates and cadres at Hotel Paradise in Madi Municipality-5 and Chanauli and Divyanagar of Bharatpur Metropolitan City on Thursday and canvassing votes.

The EC requested Prachanda to submit a written reply to the commission within eight hours of receiving the letter.

According to the election code of conduct, the silence period has started from 12:00 pm on April 10. Election campaigning is not allowed during the silence period.

Earlier also, the EC sought 24-hour explanation from Prachanda for giving statement against the code of conduct.
