Bird flu confirmed in 116,000 chickens in Chitwan



CHITWAN: Bird flu has been confirmed in 116,000 chickens of Annapurna Poultry Farm in Khairhani of East Chitwan.

It is the first farm in the district to have bird flu in a large number of poultry farms. The sample was sent to Kathmandu for further testing after a quick test conducted at the farm in Khairahani municipality-1 Jamire a few days ago showed infection. Poultry has been destroyed after bird flu was confirmed in the test.

According to Suma Aryal, manager of the farm, the infection has been detected in Layer chickens reared in full automation close house.
As soon as bird flu was detected, chickens, eggs, grains, crates, cartoons and other items were destroyed. According to Aryal, bird flu has caused an estimated loss of Rs 250 million directly and indirectly.
