UML’s mayoral candidate of Likhu sued for embezzlement

KATHMANDU: An arrest warrant has been issued against Milan Kumar Bista (Manish), a candidate for the post of Likhu Rural Municipality Mayor of Okhaldhunga.

Bista has become CPN-UML’s mayoral candidate in the local level election to be held on May 13.

According to DSP Sukdev Khanal, the Bhaktapur District Court has sent an arrest warrant against Bista to the District Police Office, Okhaldhunga for an investigation into the case. As of this writing, Bista has not been arrested.

Bista is accused of banking fraud, money embezzlement, and taking dual citizenship.

A case was registered against him in Bhaktapur in 2020 but the accused Bista had been hiding on the political protection of UML’s senior leaders during then KP Oli-led government.

After noticing the accused has been contesting under the UML flag, Ashok Karki, a Nepali Congress mayoral candidate of Likhu lodged a complaint against Bista in the office of the Election Officer.
