Supreme Court hearing writ against govt over IGP appointment today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) of Nepal is hearing a writ petition against the government’s decision to appoint Dhiraj Pratap Singh as the Inspector General (IG) of Nepal Police today (Wednesday).

AIG Bishwaraj Pokharel had moved the SC challenging the government’s decision alleging that the junior was promoted.

He had last Monday filed the writ petition through his representative demanding that the promotion made by breaching the seniority be scrapped.

Pokharel had been promoted to the post of AIG 16 months before Singh.

The government had decided to appoint Singh as IGP on Sunday. He was conferred with an insignia on Monday.
