KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal has given continuity to the interim order paving the way for Nepal Rastra Bank’s Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari to resume his work.
A joint bench of Justices Sapana Malla and Tanka Bahadur Moktan on Friday issued a verdict in favor of Governor Adhikari, upholding the interim order after conducting a hearing.
Adhikari had been suspended after a cabinet meeting held on April 7 formed a probe panel to carry out investigation on Adhikari.
Governor Adhikari on April 17 had filed a writ petition in the court against the government’s decision to form a committee to investigate him in accusation of leaking sensitive information relating to the decisions of the Ministry of Finance and not effectively fulfilling his responsibilities.
On April 19, responding to the petition registered by Governor Adhikari, a single bench of Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal issued a interim order against the government’s decision.
With the SC’s interim order staying the government’s decision to suspend Adhikari, it has questioned the intention of Finance Minister Janardan Sharma and the credibility of the government led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
