YIL opens climate fellowship grant for nine municipalities of Madhesh Province

KATHMANDU: Youth Innovation Lab (YIL), a not-for-profit organization, has opened a Climate Fellowship Grant for youths interested in pursuing their careers in the field of climate change, governance, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM).

According to YIL, the grant to be implemented in nine municipalities of Madhesh Province has been aimed at promoting Nepali youth inclusion in climate action and green economy in the post COVID recovery of Nepal.

It is a grant that recent graduates –mostly engineers, environment, and climate change graduates — will be stationed at local municipalities to work together with local governments to strengthen the disaster and climate-related plans and policies enhance knowledge and skills of provincial and local governments in DRRM and Climate Change.

The Climate Fellowship Grant application call was launched by Chief Minister of Madhesh Province Lalbabu Raut on April 10 this year, a statement issued by YIL said.

Pradip Khatiwada, Executive Director at YIL Lab said Climate Fellowship will equip young people placed at project municipal governments as Climate Fellows with the technical understanding of DRRM and CCA and BIPAD portal.

Stationed at municipal and provincial governments, young people will support in technical capacity transfer of BIPAD portal handling, sensitization of DRRM and CCA plans and policies, risk communication, and capacitate relevant stakeholders for data-driven informed decision making, the statement added.
