Biratnagar NC to defy ruling coalition’s decision

To contest polls without alliance

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Biratnagar Committee has taken strong exception to the decision taken by the five-party alliance.

Refuting the seat-sharing decision taken by the ruling alliance, the NC Biratnagar Metropolitan City President Dipak Chapagain said that the party will contest the local elections without the alliance.

President Chapagain said the dispute cropped up after the ruling alliance decided to allot the post of the deputy mayor of Biratnagar to the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP).

“The NC will contest the local elections without the alliance. The alliance decided to allot the deputy mayoral post to the JSP, not the party,” said Chapagain.

Chapagain warned that the Biratnagar Committee will move ahead in consultation with the ward committee presidents if the decision taken by the alliance is endorsed by the Central Working Committee, Central Work Execution Committee, and the Parliamentary Board of the party.

He made it clear that the alliance is not necessary since the position of the Nepali Congress is strong in Biratnagar.

In the local level elections held in 2074 BS, the NC had won the seats of seven ward chairpersons including that of mayor and deputy mayor.
