Engine issue brings Lukla flight back to Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: A Summit Air flight bound for Lukla has returned to Kathmandu within 15 minutes after experiencing an engine problem. The pilots made a safe landing in Kathmandu with only one engine after the 9N-AMP plane took off at 11:05 a.m.

The pilots noticed the engine issue on the left engine immediately after taking off from Tribhuvan International Airport and decided to land at the TIA again.

According to TIA officials, there were 18 passengers on board, including 10 foreigners, five Nepalis and three crew members.

The airport’s emergency service was activated during the landing.

TIA informed that everyone including the fire brigade and security arrangements were kept in ‘ready for rescue’ position immediately after the plane took off.
