BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, KU mark 131st Ambedkar Jayanti



KATHMANDU: BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation in collaboration with Kathmandu University (KU) celebrated the 131st Ambedkar Jayanti amidst an event, in Kathmandu, on Tuesday.

Nepal’s first President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav inaugurated the event in the presence of former House Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana, KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Bhola Thapa, former Ambassador of Nepal to India Professor Lok Raj Baral and Secretary of BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation Navin Kumar, among others.

Scholars such as Yam Bahadur Kisan, Kamala Hemchuri, Hari Sharma put forth their views in the program. On the occasion, KU-Nepal Center for Contemporary Studies was also launched.

Former President Dr. Yadav recalled the extraordinary contribution of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar for social justice and inclusion and his remarkable leadership and vision in drafting the Constitution of India.

Former Speaker Dhungana shed light on the relevance of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s message of constitutionalism and rule of law in the current context of South Asia, including Nepal.

Dr. Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891, and to pay homage to his contribution to India, every year 14th April is celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti in India and elsewhere.
