Director general of Commerce Department replaced

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has changed the leadership of the Department of Commerce.

Director General of the department Prem Kumar Shrestha has been replaced by Lila Prasad Sharma less than six months after Shrestha assumed office. Shrestha has been shifted to the Ministry.

The shuffle was carried out quietly a few days before the implementation of the election code of conduct.

Director General Sharma is close to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and the newly appointed Minister for Industry and Commerce Dilendra Prasad Badu.

Minister Badu, a leader from the far west, has brought Sharma from Kailali to helm the Commerce Department after he took charge of Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies that had been without leadership for past eight months.

Sharma had become a joint secretary last year only via open competition. Prior to this, he was in the Department of Cooperatives.
