Election code of conduct comes into force



KATHMANDU: The election code of conduct has come into force for the upcoming local level elections from Saturday.

The EC has imposed the code of conduct after political parties and other stakeholders expressed commitment in writing to comply with the code of conduct.

The code of conduct has been imposed to hold the upcoming local level elections in a free, fair and transparent manner. The local level election is set to be held on May 13.

It is applicable to the government, constitutional bodies, semi-governmental organizations, political parties, candidates, public servants, media, observers, non-governmental organizations, schools, teachers, and voters.

With the election code of conduct coming into force, Prime Minister, ministers and high ranking officials of the government, representatives of the provincial and local governments have been forced to comply with it, imposing limitations on their  dos and don’ts.

The code of conduct has been implemented in view of the local level elections to be held on May 13.

It will also restrict transfers of government employees, appointments, among others and no budget can be allotted for carrying out any activities including inauguration and survey.

A meeting of the EC to be held on Friday took an official decision to impose the election code of conduct effective from today.
