KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is making preparations to form an election mobilization and publicity committee for the upcoming local level elections in seven provinces.
A central election mobilization and publicity committees have directed subordinate bodies to form such committees as part of preparations of the local level elections to be held on May 13.
A 56-member election mobilization committee has been formed under the leadership of Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, manifesto preparation committee under the coordination of General Secretary Gagan Thapa and a 68-member election publicity committee has been formed under the coordination of spokesperson Dr Ram Sharan Mahat. The manifesto committee led by Thapa is yet to be extended.
The central election mobilization committee led by Khadka has directed to form local level election mobilization committees in coordination with presidents of various levels including provinces.
The NC has seven organizational structures– center, province, district, federal constituencies, provincial assembly constituencies, municipalities and wards.
Election mobilization committees will be formed in all levels, said Nain Singh Mahar, the central working committee member and member of the central election mobilization committee of the NC.
The NC has directed the subordinate committees to form parliamentary committee, work execution committee and disciplinary committee in line with the party statue.
As per the provision of the party statue, central parliamentary committee will select candidates for the posts of mayors and deputy mayors of metropolitan cities, province parliamentary committees will select mayors and deputy mayors of sub metropolitan cities and municipalities, district parliamentary committee will select chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities and federal constituency parliamentary committee will select candidates for the post of ward chairpersons and members.
