PM Deuba visited BJP office as NC president, not as PM: Foreign Minister Khadka

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Narayan Khadka has clarified that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba went to the headquarters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not as the Prime Minister but as the President of the Nepali Congress (NC).

Speaking to journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Sunday evening upon his arrival, Khadka claimed that it was not undiplomatic for Prime Minister Deuba, as the President of the NC, to visit the BJP office.

During his visit to India, Prime Minister Deuba was criticized for visiting the BJP headquarters, saying it was against diplomatic dignity.

However, Foreign Minister Khadka said that the Prime Minister had reached the office of the Prime Minister as the President of the Nepali Congress to further strengthen the relationship between the Nepali Congress and the BJP.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba returned home wrapping up his three-day official visit to India on Sunday evening.

During his visit to New Delhi, Nepal and India signed four different agreements, including the International Solar Alliance between Nepal and India, technical assistance related to railways, supply of petroleum products and technical expertise between Nepal Oil Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation.

Earlier, Prime Minister Deuba and his Indian counterpart had held a one-on-one talk and bilateral talks at Hyderabad House, New Delhi.

After the bilateral meetings, the agreements were signed in the presence of the Prime Ministers.

Prior to it, Prime Minister Deuba laid a wreath at Gandhi Samadhi at Raj Ghat on Saturday morning.

This was Prime Minister Deuba’s first official foreign trip in his fifth term as prime minister.

Prime Minister Deuba had flown to India leading a 50-member Nepali delegation at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on April 1.
