Construction works of powerhouse in Arun-III disrupted for week



SANKHUWASABHA: The Chhyangkuti-Pukhuwa road section, the entrance gate of 900 megawatt Arun-III hydropower project being developed in Sankhuwasabha district, is disrupted for the past seven days following the protests of the local landowners.

The locals along the Chhyangkuti-Pukhuwa road section are protesting for lack of compensation for their land.
Chairman of struggle committee Harka Singh Rai said the locals have disrupted the construction works of the powerhouse of the Arun-III project and the entrance route.

According to Rai, they were obliged to stage protests as they were not given compensation of their land plots for three years.

Rai claimed that the project now attained 30 metres land by providing compensation for just 15 metres of their land.
The locals have staged protests by disrupting the construction works of powerhouse.

Some 200 households in the area have complained that they have not received compensation for the land acquisition from the project.
