UML decries govt decisions allegedly aimed at influencing elections

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has raised objections towards the government’s decisions allegedly aimed at affecting the elections.

The party demanded reconsidering decisions of the Election Commission (EC) regarding the use of green colored ballot and providing two days for candidacy registration in the local level polls slated for May 13.

A meeting of the UML Standing Committee (SC) held on Sunday accused the government of indiscriminately transferring and promoting civil servants, police and amending laws and regulations with the aim of influencing voters. The minute of the SC meet read, “We strongly object to various decisions taken to affect the elections.”

The Standing Committee also asked the EC to review decisions such as providing two days to register candidacy and the green color chosen for ballots.

The party considered that the EC made inappropriate decisions without consulting political parties especially after the election date is declared.

UML Deputy General Secretary and Chief of Publicity Department Prithvi Subba Gurung said, “It is evident that these decisions favor the ruling party and are objectionable. We demand an immediate review of these decisions.”
