Risk of regression still not over, says Maoist leader Shrestha

GORKHA: Senior leader of CPN-Maoist Center Narayankaji Shrestha has said the risk of regression in the country was not over yet.

Addressing an event organized to inaugurate the administrative building of Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality in Gorkha on Saturday, the Maoist Center leader said the threat of regression from the anti-constitution forces in the country was still in existence.

A partisan alliance was required to safeguard the constitution, Shrestha said, claiming that some political parties were working to lead the nation towards regressive by splitting the current alliance. He also called on all sides to remain vigilant in defence of peace and constitution. Transformation of the country though the pro-people development was the pressing need of the time, he added.

Arguing that Nepal has practiced unique type of federalism, the Maoist Center leader claimed that Nepali people’s rights have reached the village-level from the central level after the institutionalization of the constitution. No one can reject the vital role of the people’s war for the establishment of federalism in the country, the former Deputy Prime Minister said, adding that now the spirit and sentiment of federalism should be circulated to the people through development and prosperity.

On the occasion, Shrestha admitted some mistakes occurred in the implementation of federalism.
