Elections in Sudan within 9 months: Burhan

KHARTOUM: Sudan’s army ruler General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan said on Tuesday that the country will hold elections to choose new leadership within 9 months.

Sudan’s military forcefully suppressed a weeks-long sit-in outside Khartoum’s army headquarters demanding civilian rule in the country. Military action on protesting civilians had killed more than 30 people.

“The military council decides to stop negotiating with the Alliance for Freedom and Change and cancel what had been agreed on and to hold general elections within nine months,” Burhan announced on state television early on Tuesday. (Agencies)
