EC to print 20 million ballot papers for local level polls

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has planned to print 20 million ballot papers targeting the upcoming local level polls scheduled to be held on May 13.

EC’s Assistant Spokesperson Surya Prasad Aryal said the number of ballot papers would be printed against the 17.7 million registered voters.

According to Aryal, the printing of the ballot paper would begin only after releasing the final name-list of the voters and some 10 to 15 additional ballot papers should be printed than the total number of voters.

He said the estimated number of additional ballot paper would be printed by considering different factors.
The EC has also said talks have been initiated with the officials at Janak Educational Materials Centre for the printing of the ballot paper there.

Likewise, EC said it is reviewing the district-level organizations of 73 different political parties submitted at the EC except for the political parties recognized as the national parties.

Furthermore, the EC said interaction with the stakeholders has already begun from March 23 on the implementation of the election code of conduct.
