KATHMANDU: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is arriving in Nepal today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.
Yi is arriving in Kathmandu today in the first high-level visit by a Chinese official after Nepal’s parliament ratified the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Nepal Compact, which China had been against the ratification.
While in Kathmandu, he will meet President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli and CPN- Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
On Saturday, he will hold bilateral talks with his counterpart Narayan Khadka.
He will return from Nepal on Sunday.
According to sources, the implementation of China’s Belt and Road Concept (BRI) implementation plan is likely to be signed during the visit, but it has not been finalized yet.
His visit comes soon after Nepal’s parliament ratified the MCC Nepal Compact.
Wang Yi will fly to Kathmandu from New Delhi where he arrived on Thursday in the first high-level visit by a Chinese official in more than two years since the standoff between the two nations in eastern Ladakh.
